# Connect your coding agent to Snipara

Instructional walkthrough for connecting Claude Code or Codex to Snipara Hosted MCP project context. Your coding client keeps its own LLM.

Prerequisites: Node.js 18 or later, an existing project with a README or project document, and a supported coding client.

## 1. Run setup in your project folder

Replace `your-project` with the existing folder your coding agent uses.

```bash
cd your-project
npx create-snipara@latest
```

## 2. Follow the guided setup

Choose Claude Code or Codex. Create or sign into a Snipara account with access to your project, or use an existing Snipara API key. Confirm or select the Snipara project.

Setup writes the selected client configuration and starts indexing available project context.

## 3. Restart and check the tools

Restart the coding client, then open a new agent session. Ask:

```text
Run snipara_help.
```

Look for a Snipara tool list or help response.

If Codex does not read project-local MCP configuration, merge the generated `.snipara/templates/codex-config.toml` Snipara snippet into `~/.codex/config.toml`, preserving your existing configuration. Ensure `SNIPARA_API_KEY` is available to the environment that launches Codex. Restart Codex, then open a new session.

No Snipara tools? Follow the [client setup checks](https://www.snipara.com/docs/integration/create-snipara#troubleshooting).

## 4. Ask a sourced project question

Paste into your coding client:

```text
Use Snipara to answer: What command does this project use to run its test suite? Cite the source file and section you used.
```

Open the cited source and check the command. Match the cited file and section.

Use a question whose answer is documented in your project. If the test command is not documented, ask another verifiable question. If the needed sources exist but indexing is still running, let it finish before retrying.
